Implicit Association Test

چکیده
Three experiments demonstrated that an abbreviated Implicit Association Test (Brief IAT) produces reliable and valid measures of implicit attitudes and identities. A fourth experiment examined properties of the Brief IAT when used to measure implicit stereotypes. The Brief IAT’s format instructs subjects to focus on just 3 of the 4 categories used in the IAT, with 2 of these 3 in each of 2 combined-task blocks. Implicit attitude measures were reliable and valid with the Brief IAT when good (but not bad) was a focal category in both combined tasks. Likewise, implicit identity measures were effective when self (but not other) was focal in both combined tasks. The Brief IAT requires as few as 40 trials and displays convergent validity with standard, full-length (150–200 trial) IAT measures.

Test-Retest Reliability and Criterion-Related Validity of the Implicit Association Test for Measuring Shyness
This study investigated the test-retest reliability and the criterion-related validity of the Implicit Association Test (IAT [1]) that was developed for measuring shyness among Japanese people. The IAT has been used to measure implicit stereotypes, as well as self-concepts, such as implicit shyness and implicit self-esteem. We administered the shyness IAT and the self-esteem IAT to participants...
متن کاملUsing the Implicit Association Test to investigate attitude-behaviour consistency for stigmatised behaviour
To consciously bolster behaviour that is disapproved by others (i.e., stigmatised behaviour) people may hold and report a favourable attitude toward the behaviour. However, achieving such bolstering outside awareness may be more difficult. Explicit attitudes were measured with self-report measures, and the Implicit Association Test was used to assess implicit attitudes toward behaviour held by ...
متن کاملUsing implicit measures to highlight science teachers’ implicit theories of intelligence
Using an innovative method, a Single-Target Implicit Association Test (ST-IAT) was created to explore the implicit theories of intelligence among science and liberal arts teachers and their relationships with their gender. The results showed that for science teachers—especially for male teachers—there was a negative implicit association between “intelligence” and “modifiable” stimuli, whereas l...
متن کاملMothers’ Implicit and Explicit Attitudes and Attributions in Relation to Self-Reported Parenting Behavior
Objective. Parenting behavior is presumed to be related to the thoughts about child behavior that parents report in a controlled and explicit manner and to more implicit parent cognitions that occur outside of conscious awareness and are less accessible to verbal report. Design. We examined mothers’ attitudes toward their children as correlates of self-reported parenting behavior. We used a com...
متن کاملImplicit attitude measures: consistency, stability, and convergent validity.
In recent years, several techniques have been developed to measure implicit social cognition. Despite their increased use, little attention has been devoted to their reliability and validity. This article undertakes a direct assessment of the interitem consistency, stability, and convergent validity of some implicit attitude measures. Attitudes toward blacks and whites were measured on four sep...
متن کاملMeasuring the Automatic Components of Prejudice: Flexibility and Generality of the Implicit Association Test
The Implicit Association Test (JAT; Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998) provides a flexible measure of the automatic associations underlying implicit prejudice. Results of three experiments showed strong evidence of implicit prejudices based on religious ethnicity (Jewish vs. Christian), age (young vs. old), and nationality (American vs. Soviet). Subjects responded more rapidly to tasks that o...
